Friday, June 9th. During the San Gabriel Canyon Rendezvous, one of two 2006 John Wesley Powell Awards was presented to Christopher Brennen. The citation on the award reads:
"In recognition of your contributions to the sport of canyoneering, and in appreciation of your kindness and generosity towards the American canyoneering community."
The award includes honorary lifetime membership in the ACA.
Chris is a well-known canyoneering pioneer in southern California, exploring canyons in the San Gabriel Mountains for more than three decades. The high standards for style and ethics he continues to set serve as an inspiration for all who follow in his footsteps.
Chris shares his passion for our sport with friends and strangers with equal enthusiasm. When we asked for suggestions for the citation, the words "kindness and generosity" set the theme. The American canyoneering community is richer for having Chris as one of our own.
