I'm interested in getting some USGS quads. Specifically, I'd like to see the one that has Globe, AZ on it, for this fall's rendezvous. But, I'd like a resource for all quads. Is there a better place to get them inexpensively? I've seen the prices in a relatively wide range. Especially, with shipping. Or, has anyone used any of the software for these that they would recommend? I'm kind of leaning toward getting the actual quads, because I've used them in the distant past for work and I like the traditional maps. But, I'd be open to software, if the quality is pretty good. Any suggestions for this map impaired, future canyoneer? :)

I wish I had a good source for you on inexpensive maps, I'd like to find that myself. I have been learning much about topo maps and GPS related info in the last couple of years. I have found Topozone.com an awesome and free learning tool for me. I can study maps of any area and see what the quad names are and gather way-point cord's. and whatever, all for free. It's not designed for printing maps under the 'free' option, but it is great for doing your homework prior to a trip. I might guess that loading maps on a dial-up connection could be a bit slow, but it has provided me a great resource.

National Geographic has topo maps for every state (available at rei.com). Each state costs $100 (pretty expensive), but it contains all the 7.5 minute maps for the whole state. You can zoom in and out, put in routes and waypoints, and sync it up with your gps. If I had the money, I'd get it.
