View Full Version : Steel biner to use with Pirana?

I ordered a Pirana and a steel biner (Kador M73) from petzl, but the biner doesn't want to fit through the hole in the pirana. The instructions with the pirana say to use either the William or the Attache biners, both of which are aluminum. What steel biners will work, or is there some way to make the steel biner I have work? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Zach,

The steel biners made by Omega Pacific will fit the Pirana and are easy to find at, or order through, most outdoor retailers.

Rich,
Thanks for the info. Let me know if you're still planning on coming to the Tahoe area in September, I'd love to meet up with you guys. See you at the Rendevous.

A note about Pirana and steel carabiners: unless you are using the Pirana in "canyon mode" (i.e. w/o passing rope behind the friction horns) with dirty rope, there is no reason to use a steel carabiner. I've used the same William with mine for a couple of years with no rope wear on the 'biner. The preceding not meant to address personal preferences! :)
