North Wash and Trachyte Creek

North Wash and Trachyte Creek are east of the Henry Mountains. Both drainages empty into Lake Powell. Both have interesting, easily-accessable side canyons that offer a multitude of canyoneering adventures.

To get there from the town of Hanksville, take Highway 95 south. The eventually highway follows North Wash as it reaches Lake Powell. Alternatively, you can take Highway 95 north from Blanding to reach Lake Powell and the lower reaches of North Wash. Highway 276 branches off of Highway 95 just north of the canyoneering area. Highway 276 will take you to the canyon tributaries of Trachyte Creek, and eventually to Bullfrog Marina.

A note of caution: several canyons in this area are quite narrow and contain dangerous climbing. Fully scope any canyon in this area before you commit to a descent. Do not take these canyons lightly!

The BLM has concerns regarding the condition of the Sandthrax campsite. Please keep the place clean and use restroom and trash facilities up the road at Hog Springs.
