An upper tributary of Fish Creek, Mc Loyd Canyon is fairly easy to get to and is a great place for day trips and explorations.

Permit Information
Permit information for day use and overnight trips is available at the Kane Gulch Ranger Station.
Camping/Lodging
There is abundant primitive camping in the Cedar Mesa area. Inquire at the Kane Gulch Ranger Station for information and permits. Natural Bridges NM has a nice improved campground. Additional camping, food, supplies and lodging options around Blanding.
Preferred Season
Spring and fall are best. Summer can be hot and buggy. Winter is cold and typically quiet with short days.
Water Concerns

Special Challenges
Exposed slickrock ledges although often easy, can be very dangerous. Be careful when hiking slickrock above cliffs. It can be very hot in summer. Carry plenty of water any time of year.

Directions to Trailhead
From Blanding Utah go south on US 191. Turn right (south) on State Hwy 95 toward Cedar Mesa, Natural Bridges National Monument and Lake Powell . Cross the Comb Ridge and continue to Hwy 261. Just before you get to Natural Bridges turn left (south) on Hwy 261. After passing the Kane Gulch Ranger Station continue past San Juan County Road SJ 253 Owl Creek to SJ 237 Brushy Flat. Turn left here and follow the sometimes rough dirt road east about eight miles to the parking area. At the sign turn left and park at the rim of Mc Loyd Canyon.
