A very entertaining non technical route. A short and easy approach to some entertaining canyon terrain. While in the area, make sure you check out Spooky and Brimstone

Rating: 2A I
Time Required: 2-4 Hours
Longest Rappel: None

Permit Information
None Needed

Camping/Lodging
Plenty of primitive camping along Hole In The Rock Road

Preferred Season
Winter, Spring, Fall. Summer would be hot, although it is a quick route, and the canyons will provide some shade

Water Concerns
None- perhaps a pool at the entrance to Peek-a-Boo, and maybe some water in the potholes at the beginning

Special Challenges
None

Equipment Suggestions
Small pack, Camera, perhaps a 30 ft handline

Topographic Maps
USGS 7.5' Big Hollow Wash

Directions to Trailhead
Head East out of the town of Escalante to the signed Hole In the Rock Road. Drive this dirt road for over 26 miles to the signed turn off on the left for 'Dry Fork Trailhead'. Take this road for about 3/4 of a mile to the first junction and turn left. Follow that road to its end at the trailhead, about another 3/4 of a mile

Approach
From the trailhead, follow the easily identified hiker trail down in to the wash. There is a
shallow canyon on the left as you first reach the wash. These are kinda pretty but very un-entertaining narrows. From those narrows, continue to your right and you will see the
entrance to Peek-a-Boo

Description: Standard Route
Climb out the entrance using carved steps. There are two fun potholes, and plenty of arches and windows and holes to crawl through. This section is fun and exciting. Afterwards, you will encounter some pretty and rather narrow sections,
and then reach the top of the canyon.

Exit
Return the way you came down canyon.

Alternate Exit
This route is definitely preferred as it will extend your trip and add to the excitement. From the top of Peek-a-Boo when you reach to open wash, head to your right. You may be able to find and follow a hiker trail that leads over a ridge and down in to a large, open, sandy wash. Once you reach this unmistakeable wash, turn right and
follow it right to the head of Spooky. Descend Spooky
