Hi! I had a canyoneering experience yesterday at Matacanes Canyon. We started at the bottom and we kept ascending against river flow. If any of you have visited Matacanes, you know that there are many jumps, but going upriver, we had to "climb" a little to reach the path.
I noticed that I have no much strenght in my hands... They can't hang me for a long while, so I want to strenghten my hands. Do know any of you about some excercises that I could practice at home?
Greetings!

Cheap way is to squeeze a tennis ball over and over. This helps the grip and forarms.
Chin ups are also good for total upper body strength.
I have done Matecanes and it is a beautiful canyon. Can't imagine doing it from the bottom up. That would really be a challenge.

Thanks DJ... squeezing a tennis ball sound like something that I could do even at my office... I'll try :2thumbs:
About Matacanes, you're right... Was very challenging... Do you remember the "faith jump"? That completly dark 10ft jump just a little after the 2nd rapel in the cave? We reached there (but we couldn't keep ascending), we ate there (at the cave's exit) and then we started to descending like the classic trip... Considering that the faith jump's cave is at the first third of the trip while descending, we could say that we took the remaining two thirds of the trip twice... One time ascending and the other descending.
I can barely climb stairs and open a jar of jelly... Ha ha ha ha...
Greetings!

Thanks cutter! That link provides some nice home training hands methods... All very cheap and easy to perform.

another option is to get a bucket full of sand... reach into the sand and squeeze... pull your hand out while letting go of the sand... then repeat as fast as you can for as long as you can...

Yeap... I had read about this but with a bucket of rice instead of sand. Thanks for the tip.
