Hi!

I've been training in a hangboard, with a climbing group. I did my first vertical climb (because the last three weeks, I have been doing boulder: low height climbing without ropes). I learned how to fit a harness, how to make a single and a double "8" shape knot, how to belay a climber from the bottom, etc...

After that, I was wondering about if exists a difference between a canyoneering harness and a climbing harness, because I have seen both in the Internet, and I have noticed some differences, but I don't know if they're just different models or have different functions.

If I buy a harness I could use it for climbing and canyoneering? Or I would need to buy one for climbing and one for canyoneering?

Greetings.

Over the years I have accumulated a lot of harnesses: big wall, light weight back country, caving, canyoning. Each has it's own advantage/disadvantage. I like gear loops. Others don't. I like a high attachment on the canyoning harness. It needs to be low for caving. I like the padding of a big wall harness if I am hanging in it a long time. Take it in a wet canyon and you will be sorry. It will soak up water. If you are really into canyoning, I suggest you get a harness that is easy on/off with a butt protector. However you have to try them out to determine if they are comfortable. In the meantime, use something light weight like the Black Diamond Alpine Bod. You will destroy it. But it is relatively cheap. It is versatile while you are figuring out what canyoning harness works for you.

I really dig the BD Alpine Bod harness. Its super easy to take on and off and super portable. Right now I'm using a Mad Rock harness. A tad bit of padding and gear loops for about $40. Its really comfortable for me and easily fits over multiple layers.
