I have spent hours serching this site & the web for a good image of an 8 (or a totem)rigged for vertaco mode. I have seen the totem on the video rigged this way but I like to keep going back & re-trying things I am learning and the video is not the way for a quick confirmation that I recall it correctly.
"I think this is right", won't suffice.
Would someone please either direct me to a good image of a device rigged for vertaco mode or perhaps post one?
What the heck does vertaco mean anyway? Is this an ACA term, because there is nothing on the web that I can find that refers to it.
As always, your help is tremendously appreciated.

Vertaco is not an ACA name. It comes to us from Europe. A simple way to add a bit more friction on a figure eight. It must be rigged pre-flight, not mid-flight, as it requires opening your connection carabiner.
I'll be happy to post some photos when I return home if nobody else beats me to it.

This isn't on a harness but the rap rope is on the bottom and the brake side is coming out of the Pirate. I rap this way on all raps and if needed just flip the rope over the top of the totem.

What are thoughts on using this method with an ATC?

This has been talked a little in this thread. Wasn't much fead back about what others thought on this method. Go and practice. Next time I go out to practice I'll give it a try.

I tried the vertaco on ATC this weekend at a meetup. I didnt really find much difference between this method and using a biner on leg loop. Because the rope isnt creating friction by contacting the rope as it would when using other rappel devices there isnt much added benefit to vertaco ala ATC. My preference would be to use a biner on the leg loop to seperate the change in direction of the rope. This seems to added more friction. And if even more friction is necessary you can easy convert to the Z-Rig.

Question for Oldno7 and Thafen: have you used the totem without the Vertaco and then added friction with the loop over the top of the totem? the video shows adding Vertaco, then extra over the top. Are there times when both of these is not required i.e. larger diameter rope, shorter rappel, etc.?
Thanks for your answers to the group.
