The only webbing I have every used has been pre-cut with the ends melted at a climbing shop. As such, I have a couple of questions about webbing -

1. Is it dangerous to use webbing that hasn't been sealed with an electric knife?

2. Are there specific lengths of webbing that people prefer to carry because they find they are the most common / useful?

3. Is there any problem carrying a longer piece of webbing and cutting of pieces as needed to size?

Cutting webbing with a hot knife makes the ends pretty, but nothing dangerous about webbing cut with a cold knife in the field.

Personal preference regarding lengths. I prefer to carry one long piece. If an anchor requires 13 feet 4 inches of webbing, I cut that amount off my long piece. If you are carrying 20-foot pieces, you may not have a use for the other 6 feet 8 inches.

I carry 20 to 50 feet depending on the canyon in a small stuff sack. Just pull out what you need and cut.
