A fun, easy sandstone slickrock canyon in the mountains of Colorado.

Camping/Lodging
There are National Forest Campgrounds located all along Colorado Hwy. 133. There is good primitive camping in the area as well. Numerous restaurants hotels and other lodging are available in Redstone and Carbondale.
Preferred Season
Summer, June through August.
Water Concerns
Higher volumes early season.
Special Challenges
You will encounter a little loose rock descending the buttress into the canyon on the approach but otherwise this canyon is pretty straight forward. Good canyon for beginners.
Variations: Some of the drops can be down-climbed or climbed around.
Equipment Suggestions
One 60 meter rope, slings and rapid links, standard canyon kit. A wet suit might be nice in early spring or late fall.

Directions to Trailhead
From the town of Carbondale Colorado head south on Colo. Hwy. 133 to Redstone. Continue south past Redstone heading toward McClure Pass. About two miles south of Redstone you will see a sign for Hayes Creek Falls on your right. Parking is on the east side of the highway.

Approach
From parking on the east side of CO Hwy. 133 cross the road and strike up the steep hillside on a trail left of the canyon. This trail winds steeply up through the forest rapidly gaining height allowing occasional glimpses into the bottom of the canyon right. A prominent buttress leads down into the canyon at the first real gooseneck. Descend this buttress (loose rock in places) right to the bottom of the canyon.

Slickrock scrambling, potholes and active waterfalls (higher volumes early season). Good natural anchors are available for the upper drops. Ice climbers bolts are available for anchors at the bottom.
