On Saturday July 17, 2010 a female canyoneer in her early 20s was rescued from Bear Canyon after falling from a 20 foot drop. She was not rappelling at the time and had made it through the narrows. Search and rescue personnel carried her out to the confluence with West Clear Creek where a DPS helicopter was waiting. Her injuries included severe head trauma, she was not wearing a helmet and was unconscious for approximately 3 hours.

Helmets are a must on any canyoneering adventure. Simple precautions go a long way in minimizing the seriousness of an accident in a canyon. I hope she is ok.

water level in Bear is getting low. Some will find that first pothole...well..a bear. Some should be able to get out on their own, but not all, so not quite a keeper yet.
