The main attraction of hiking Wheeler Creek is the opportunity to see the fabulous Wheeler Creek hoodoos from the bottom, a very different perspective from the one you get from the view point on the rim. The views up to the hoodoos are outstanding. There are overhanging pumice walls. Even in late summer there are refrigerator sized blocks of snow lying in the creek. The most interesting thing of all is the sight of hundreds of pumice stones floating by in the creek.
