Hi Guys
1 The Intro - my first post into an ACA forum
We live in the North of Scotland. Yes, thats in the UK over the pond. However, we have been lucky to have had 4 trips to the Colorado Plateau in the past 15 years - all in about 50 days in the canyons, including 15 days on Lake Powell. Favourites are Smith Canyon, Peak-a-Boo and Spooky, Egypt3, and anything in the Swell. It might be a year or so until we get back, since it is a very expensive hobby for us!!!!. But I dream.......
2 The Query
We are in Sardinia this summer (yes, the island in the Med, belongs to Italy). It has some major canyons - Goroppu is the deepest in Europe (or is it that canyon in Crete?). Anyway, are there any of you guys with any knowledge of Goroppu, and other Sardinian canyons? Or know of any good websites with descriptors.
Cheers
Doug

Hi Doug, welcome to the forum. The person to contact is Koen Viaene. I'm not sure he pokes in here often, but you can reach him via his guiding service, Poco Loco Adventures, just look under 'contact us' for the email:

If any exists, I'm sure he can point you to some people/websites/guidebooks for the area. He helped me find some hard-to-get books for canyons in the caribbean a few months ago (at least hard-to-get here in the states). Tell him Mike Dallin said hi.

No need to say hello through an intermediary Mike :-), I jusy happened on this thread.

Our German canyoning brothers have a nice overview of all Italian topoguides on their site:
http://www.deutschercanyoningverein.de/buecher/italien.htm

The one coded "I 2" bundles 17 descents on Sardinia. I've never seen it and it's an old edition so I have no idea if it's still up to date or even available.

The "I 3" book is newer, but only has 3 descents (it's lying in front of me).

Either way, a friend organised a canyoning course on Sardinia last year. If you want the latest topo's I'll ask him to send me some copies.

Thanks for the response. If you had further details from your friend that would be good.

Best Wishes

I'll have a copy of the topos by the end of next week. I can either send them by post or give them to someone in Mexico ?
