The vertical walls of this spectacular gorge are said to contain plant species found nowhere else. Visiting the lower part of the canyon is very easy. There is a signed parking area two miles east of Multnomah Falls on the Old Highway. Just walk and wade about a third of a mile upstream to where you will be stopped by a pool with a high waterfall. The only obstacle in hiking the lower gorge is a large log jam that was deposited by a recent flood. The pool is a very popular spot. To see the upper canyon will require three or four rappels and a few short swims.
