Hello all,

I am just getting back into Rappelling (that's all we did in the old days) and I am sure I need to expand it into full-on Canyoneering. I am in need of instruction and see that there is a Fast Track Course soon in AZ. I would like to attend but I'm am not sure if I have the appropriate skills or 'quailify'. How much lattitude is there with my current required experience? (I have a little but very basic) I can do a very basic single or double line rappel, understand basic anchoring, leg wrap lock off, firemans belay...and that's about it. In other words, I know a couple basic knots, 1 or 2 ways to anchor (naturally only, never set a bolt yet), and have used only a figure 8 descender. Will I be a big hinderence to the class or is that enough for the instructor to feel comfortable with me, to go on? I would really like to get started and this sounds like the next available class. I would be willing to pay for some individual instruction anytime prior to the class to make sure I had enough of the basics to be safe at class. Any thoughts yes or no?

Thanks for your input

PS, Im in Cedar City, UT and willing to go wherever within reason.

I will be the instructor for the FastTrack course in Arizona. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like you have acquired quite enough skills/techniques yet. The course will start with a quick refresher of Technical Canyoneering Course material, but not complete instruction.

Keep your eye on our schedule. There is a Technical Canyoneering Course coming up in January in southern California and more will be added to the calendar in the spring, including in Cedar City.

I don't know if you have been to this web site yet but check out http://www.meetup.com/ACA-Canyoneering
The meetup groups are great for a little practice before a class and great for meeting people in your area to go out with and learn some new skills.
