I Posted these as one canyon because there's no reason not to do both in a single outing.. honestly.

I will, however, split up beta.

First Water Canyon:

Please Be CAREFUL in this canyon. Delicate formations are present at an 8' downclimb and at the rappel. take care in your descent, because you WILL damage these.

First Water Canyon is located 3 drainages south of Parker Canyon. It features one rappel down a very pretty travertine fall. After that the canyon becomes uninteresting within 1/4 mile. Ascend back the way you came via fixed ropes.

Rating: 3A I
Time Required: 1-2 hours
Longest Rappel: 60 feet

Permit Information
No permit is required.

Preferred Season
Fall, Winter, Spring

Special Skills
Comfort with ascending necessary.

Hog Canyon:

Hog Canyon is located 2 drainages south of Parker Canyon. Take the 3rd spur you encounter from the south parking spot that drops into Hog Canyon for the most dramatic route. this will feature a 25 foot pouroff and a 95 foot pouroff almost immediately. leave ropes in place if you plan to return this way. further down canyon there are 2 unnecessary bolt stations. all can be bypassed on canyon right via a concealed footpath. The 3rd station must be utilized to drop into the main confluence of Hog Canyon. from here, the canyon becomes uninteresting after 5 minutes of walking. if you left ropes in place, return the way you came. if not, the drainage heading east at the confluence may have some escape options.

Rating: 3A I
Time Required: 2-3 hours
Longest Rappel: 95 feet

Permit Information
No permit is required.

Preferred Season
Fall, Winter, Spring

Special Skills
Comfort with ascending necessary. Up to 4 ropes necessary if leaving in place.

I will add a small note about Todd Martins webpage, Toddshikingguide.com. (http://www.toddshikingguide.com)there's some limited info there about these canyons under the parker canyons listing.

Bees have become a true problem in firstwater. If it is warm beware! Right at the 50 foot rap an aggresive huge hive is on canyon left. While waiting to rappel I was stung many times and had to literally dump off of the edge as soon as I was on rap. Got clients down small rap/downclimb after that, just before bees starting stinging another guide above this area. Read post on el capitan, seems like a similar situation. Went through in cold conditions no problem.
