Directions to Trailhead
From town, take the I-95 North and drive out to the Desert National Wildlife Range. There is a Brown sign before the Right hand turn. Drive to the Corn Creek Field Station and continue east to a T-intersection a few yards beyond the parking area. Turn left onto Alamo Road and drive north for 8.7 miles to Cow Camp Road. Turn right onto Cow Camp Road and go east towards the mountains. The road runs through a gap in the Black Hills and towards the base of the Sheep Range. At a fork in the road 5.2 miles out, stay to the left (Right takes you to Cow Camp trailhead), and continue for another half mile or so to the end of the road. (If your car can handle it you can drive over the small wash and a couple shrubs the road continues to the mouth of this canyon for less walking ~1/4 mile) Park here.
Trailhead UTM Grid Coordinate

Approach
To hike up to the canyon go to the north to a steep slope that is easily hiked up. On your way up if you want to try your ascending skills there is an old mine shaft that can be spotted when you are about half way up. Look for a mound of dirt that looks out of place. Mine: 36 35.685’N, 115 17.881’W.
From the mine head south 300 yards or so and you will see the canyon. Follow the drainage to the 1st Rap and have fun.
Canyon Entry UTM Grid Coordinate
36 35.587’N, 115 18.026’W.
Description
This canyon is great for practicing natural anchors. There are only 3 raps and some great down climbs. The rock is limestone and anything out of the waterway is like razors. Wear gloves! With some good climbing skills (5.9) or pothole escape skills the canyon can be done from the bottom up.
Great beginner canyon.
Exit
The canyon comes out 50’ from the dirt road you hiked/drove up.
