so i have a meetup scheduled for tomorrow. t storms rolled in.

do i cancel? or do i make everyone aware of the storm and roll with it, making it clear that everyone is making a self conscious decision upon being informed?

i'll add to this by saying the canyon we will do is very easy to escape, given the conditions i have seen here and the current weather and soil status im not worried about the water level too much.

im more worried about it being an electrical storm.

thoughts?

well it depends. I would inform everyone beforehand. sometimes something can be sneaked in before or after a storm. a short canyon maybe. have you canyoned with everyone before. confident in their ability to move fast and self rescue on rappel so the group can keep moving fast as a team. some things to consider.

approach hiking in the rain not a problem. approach hiking in a thunder storm not a good idea.

as the organizer for the meetup I think you need to side on the conservative side for everyone's safety even if they still want to go.

see, i sent out an email saying this exact thing. its a short canyon. it is a flowing water canyon. im not super concerned with the lightning because the canyon is in healthy, tall pines, including the approach.

half of the group i am very familiar with, and can help facilitate quick escape or rescue if necessary... the other half is just getting their canyon legs under them. im torn.
