Question Looking for shuttle buddies for Subway on Tue. May 19th

    Hello from SF Bay Area!

We're a 3-person group looking for transportation partner(s) to hike the Subway on Tuesday May 19th! We'll be traversing the traditional route from Wildcat trailhead down to Left Fork. We'll have a rental car and we're hoping a small group in a similar situation as us (or larger groups with multiple cars) will be willing to team up with us to save the $25-35/person shuttle fee.

We're experienced climbers w/ anchor/rappel trainings, but this will be our first (of hopefully many) canyoneering trip.

    Thanks in advance! =)

I'm not sure about May, but in early june and late september, we were able hitchhike a ride within 15 mins of waiting.

We send Jim out and the first car always stop's.
Hey--I've even gotten rides and I'm old and ugly.

Seriously I think you could very easily hitch a ride. Very common practice in Zion.

Oh just in case you don't know, I was thinking of taking some beginners down subway last week but changed plans after going to the Narrows outfitter store near zion. They told be that subway was a class C canyon at the moment and that the waters will be freezing cold from the ice melt. They also told me stories of canyoneers almost drowning at the second obstacle where all the water funnels into a small waterfall. Beside that, the narrows were still closed and the waters in very narrow canyons such as keyhole were very cold so you would've wanted to have neoprene socks and maybe gloves. I'm not sure how much conditions will change by they time you're there though.

thanks much for the warnings and condition updates.

we have neoprene socks and wetsuits, wet shoes, etc (we'll also bring life vests just in case). the may 19th date is indeed a bit early, but we're hoping the water will be upwards of low 60s... we'll be be sure to check with park rangers when we get to zion =)
